What is Cyber security?

In today’s world, technology is a crucial part of everyone’s life. Either it is a business life or a personal life, everyone is taking advantage of technology in different ways. As we know that we can communicate with people around the world in few moments because of technology. So it’s obvious that Internet has made the world a “Global Village”. Cyber security is a combination of two words i-e Cyber and Security. The word Cyber relates to computer or computer networks. In other words we can say that Cyber is essentially anything related to technology. So this includes computer systems, computer networks, and computer programs such as operating system, user applications and data/personal assets /important files. So with an understating of what Cyber is, let’s look at what Cyber security is. As we discussed above that we need to protect our information in computing world too from unauthorized access. Here Cyber security plays an important role. The people that try to access personal information or try to damage our computer programs and applications, we call them hackers or attackers in computing world. So now one can clearly understand the meaning of “Cyber security”. Cyber security is basically the protection of these computer systems, computer networks and computer programs against attackers. It is a core of all methodologies, techniques and practices that people use to protect computers, programs and data from any damage or unauthorized access. All Information System is responsible in assuring cyber security.

Cyber security provides security at different levels. When Computer Systems are protected, it is named as “System Security”. When Computer Networks are protected, it is considered as “Network Security”. A firewall is one part of “Network Security” controls. When Computer Programs are made secure, it is called “Application Security” and when data or personal information is protected, it is named as “Information Security”. Cyber security is incomplete without the end user so You and I play an important role also in Cyber security. One should also have complete understanding of Cyber security. The understanding of Cyber security knowledge is not just limited to personal life but in business life too, one should know about it in order to run organizations in a very smooth way without loss of any important data. Main problem in maintaining Cyber security is the cause of evolving nature of security risks as new kind of viruses and software are evaluating daily. 100% security is not possible but still we need to be aware about cyber security.
